Founded by producer Konda Mason, guitarist Vernon Reid (of Living Colour), and legendary journalist Greg Tate, the volunteer not-for-profit organization The Black Rock Coalition (BRC) has a lot to celebrate. Over the past 40 years, the BRC has asserted every musician-of-color's right to creative freedom, irrespective of musical style. Today, they continue to build a devoted community of genre-expansive artists and kindred spirits.

Many musical giants—including Living Colour, Fishbone, Tamar-kali, Van Hunt, Sananda Maitreya, Stew and the Negro Problem, Imani Coppola, Fantastic Negrito, Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber, The 1865, Sophia Ramos, David Ryan Harris, Militia Vox, and The Family Stand—appear on the BRC's Rock 'n' Roll Reparations compilation series.
